Clay class is an opportunity for children to create and represent their ideas in a visual form. The children use clay to create their own original designs or make something that represents a real object, place or living thing. Children poke, pinch, twist and roll clay while developing both fine and major motor skills. Children can mold clay, shape it and become aware that they are in charge and have influence over the medium as it is quick to respond to their fingers.

Clay is different from other art mediums in that it requires an understanding of the three dimensional world. The children begin to understand shape, form, and perspective, and gain knowledge of planning methods and problem-solving as they map out their three-dimensional project.
