MYIS Olympics Day Recap 2025

The 2nd Annual MYIS Olympics was an incredible success, a full day of athletic excitement, teamwork, and school spirit as our four MYIS Houses came together in friendly competition.

The event began with a lively opening ceremony featuring a whole-school Zumba warm-up and the vibrant sounds of the MYIS Marching Band leading the parade. The Olympic flame was lit during the traditional Torch Run, officially marking the start of the games.

Throughout the day, students demonstrated their athleticism and collaboration in a variety of events including tug of war, 100-meter sprints, 400-meter relays, shot put, and a free-throw competition. Team sports such as basketball, chair ball (our modified version of netball), and Ultimate Ball showcased students’ tactical skills and teamwork. This year also introduced an exciting new event, a doubles pickleball tournament, which quickly became a fan favorite.

In the lead-up to the Olympics, PE units helped prepare students through lessons designed to connect physical literacy and sportsmanship with authentic, real-world competition, making this a true co-curricular experience for all grade levels.

The day concluded with an unforgettable finale as the MYIS Varsity Basketball Team narrowly defeated the MYIS Parent All-Stars with a thrilling game-winning basket that had the crowd on its feet.

A heartfelt thank you goes out to our parent community for their support, energy, and refreshments throughout the day, and to all MYIS staff members who led events, refereed games, and ensured everything ran smoothly.

Following last year’s victory by House Andromeda, this year’s MYIS Cup Champions were House Orion, earning 263 points, just ahead of Andromeda in second place, with 244 points followed by Lynx with 239 points, and Phoenix in fourth with 199 points.

The MYIS Olympics continues to grow each year, building spirit, fostering teamwork, and celebrating the joy of movement that defines the MYIS community.
