Double Victory: MYIS Sweeps Battle of the Books!

It was a historic week for our readers as MYIS claimed two championship titles in the latest Battle of the Books competitions!
Last Monday, our Elementary School team faced off against 13 other schools from Bangkok and Chiang Mai in the inaugural South East Asia Battle of the Books. The team set the pace early, emerging from the first round with the highest scores. They carried that momentum through the semi-finals and into a final showdown against Bangkok Prep and Prem Tinsulanonda. With team-work, professionalism and confidence, our students secured first place overall.
The winning streak continued just two days later when our High School team took on Basis International School. It was a true “nail-biter” of a competition; by the end of the second round, only a single point separated the two teams. The MYIS team came through in the third round to clinch the victory and earn the championship title for their category.
Battle of the Books is a reading challenge where students master a shared list of 16 diverse titles. To win, our students had to demonstrate more than just memorization skills; they showcased critical thinking when recalling details from 16 different stories, teamwork in the lead up to the event, sharing roles and responsibilities as well as learning to work together during the battles, listening to peers and reaching a consensus in seconds.
While the event wins are a wonderful achievement, the true reward has been the joy of discovering new books and championing a culture of reading across our campus.
Congratulations to our double champions! Our Elementary School Battle of the Books team: Ava (G.4), Izzy (G.5), Jiahui (G.5), Lahav (G.5), Lalynn (G.4), Monica (G.4), Natcha (G.5), Win (G.5).
