Grade 1 students focused on building a strong sense of belonging and connection in their classroom. They read “Stick and Stone” by Beth Ferry, a heartwarming story that helped them explore the importance of standing up for others and showing empathy, just like Stick did for Stone. Students reflected on how they can show kindness, include others, and care for one another every day at school.
As part of this learning, they introduced “Stick and Stone” partners! Working in pairs, students created a Venn diagram to discover what makes them special. They asked thoughtful questions, listened closely, and celebrated both their similarities and differences. Through these conversations, they began to reflect on their identities, practice empathy, and appreciate different perspectives.
