At MYIS, we aim to do what’s best for our students. That commitment extends beyond the curriculum and classroom experiences. One of the ways we support student health and learning is through the use of positive pressure systems in our classrooms for students ages 1 to 7 years old.
What is a Positive Pressure System?
A positive pressure system keeps indoor air pressure slightly higher than the air pressure outside. This means the clean, filtered, conditioned air inside each room gently flows outward, preventing unfiltered outdoor air from seeping in through doors, windows, and even tiny cracks in the building. It provides near-zero PM2.5 levels inside the classrooms, keeping the fresh, clean air in and polluted air out! So what are the benefits and what do those look like for our students?
Improved Indoor Air Quality
This system helps block outdoor pollutants, allergens, and irritants from entering learning spaces. What this means for classrooms:
- Less dust, pollen, mold, and particulates
- Better respiratory comfort for students and teachers
- More stable temperature and humidity throughout the day
Reduced Spread of Airborne Illnesses
Since it pushes indoor air outward, it also helps limit the movement of airborne contaminants between rooms. This means,
- Less cross-contamination between classrooms
- Healthier learning environments, especially during cold and flu seasons
- Reduced transmission of viruses with hospital-grade fresh filtered air
Consistent Temperature & Humidity Control
Preventing outside air from infiltrating the classroom allows the AC system to its job more efficiently. The benefits of that look like:
- Steadier classroom temperatures
- Less humidity fluctuations, which reduces risk of mold
Enhanced Comfort & Better Learning
Clean, fresh air helps students perform better. This kind of system reduces odors and stale air, improves concentration, behavior, and cognitive functions and contributes to an overall better learning outcome for students. When students feel good, they learn better—it’s that simple.
By investing in positive pressure systems, we’re investing in our students’ health, comfort, and ability to thrive. These systems reflect our dedication to creating the best learning environments where children feel safe, supported, and ready to engage throughout the school day.
We are able to monitor levels through an app as you can see below.
