At MYIS visual arts is viewed as a fundamental part in the holistic approach to education. It offers students a unique way of communicating what they see, think and feel allowing them to learn and appreciate the world around them from a different perspective. The Visual Arts program follows the IB PYP scope and sequence and is arranged into two strands – Creating and Responding. Through these, students develop their creativity, using different materials and techniques, to explore practical aspects of art and design. They gain an appreciation of different mediums, including clay, and the artists from these fields and develop their observational and reflective skills. Visual arts offers a curriculum that is at times integrated into homeroom Units of Inquiry, as well as independent inquiry into arts-related knowledge, concepts and skills.
