Earth Week 2022

“This is the moment to change it all — the business climate, the political climate, and how we take action on climate. Now is the time for the unstoppable courage to preserve and protect our health, our families, and our livelihoods.”

This week all classes at MYIS focused on inquiring into our Earth and how we can protect it. From undertaking a whole school investigation into the amount of food waste we produce each day, to thinking about how we can maintain a more environmentally friendly campus, our students enthusiastically united.

Here are some photos of the learning engagements from across the school…

“J&C students are learning to take care of our earth by reusing materials for play. They participated in reducing waste by making their new farm role play area with used cardboard boxes.”

“Grade 1 want to help solve the trash problem. They feel the trash should be separated and there should be something to put the trash in so that we don’t litter. They have planned to decorate and label boxes for different items such as masks, plastic, cardboard etc.”

“Grade 3 students will create future inventions to help our Earth by making a model using recyclable materials.”

“Grade 4 – We are going to design a map of the school including types of renewable energy that the school could use to make us more sustainable.”

“Grade 5- Grade five will create posters about reducing usage of electricity, water, paper, and plastic. Two students will pick the one that they would like to do and with a new student joining, he will be able to pick what he would like to do.”
