IB Middle Years Programs

MYIS International School is an authorized International Baccalaureate (IB) World School.

IB Middle Years Program

The MYIS Middle Years Programme (MYP) framework, for students aged 11 to 16 years (MYIS Grades 6-10), builds on the foundational skills students acquire in the Primary Years Programme (PYP). The MYP identifies six global contexts for teaching and learning that link all of the MYP subjects, helping students make connections between their learning and the real world. This holistic framework is further supported by an emphasis on the Approaches to Learning Skills that underpin all IB programmes and encourage students to become lifelong learners and capable human beings when navigating an increasingly complex world. MYIS aspires to be a school that engages meaningfully with the community; as such, the school is currently developing Service as Action within and outside of the curriculum, which is a a program that requires students to engage with local, regional and global communities.

During the final year of the MYP, students engage in a personal project that focuses on an area of personal interest and is a culmination of their MYP learning. The personal project helps students develop and demonstrate the IB Learner Profile Attributes, and it is a key step in their development as independent learners.

MYIS International School is a Candidate School* for the IB Middle Years Programme (MYP). This school is pursuing authorization as an IB World School. These are schools that share a common philosophy—a commitment to high quality, challenging, international education that MYIS International School believes is important for our students. Only schools authorized by the International Baccalaureate (IB) can offer any of its four academic programmes: the Primary Years Programme (PYP), the Middle Years Programme (MYP), the Diploma Programme, or the Career-related Programme (CP). Candidate status gives no guarantee that authorization will be granted. For further information about the IB and its programmes, visit www.ibo.org.
